Enhancement of E-learning Capacity

The idea behind this TERNET function is to oversee the enhancement and the capacity building in E-learning among the TERNET members' institutions.

There are some initiatives among the TERNET members but these are mostly in –their infancy at the current time. TERNET intends to initiate a programme that will make e-learning resources available to teachers and students in the HEIs.

It is anticipated that provision be made for HEIs to acquire networked computers and multimedia devices and tools to enhance the efficiency and quality of classroom teaching and learning, as well as Online and Distance Learning (ODL), and to give students and teachers access to network-based electronic resources.

The programme will include capacity building activities within TERNET so that it has the expertise to provide guidance to the HEIs, on an ongoing basis, concerning best practice in the use of ICTs and content creation to enhance the teaching and learning environment.

TERNET also intends to set up and administer a process for HEIs to mobilize funds to acquire and deploy computer and multimedia resources, in accordance with guidelines drawn up by TERNET.

The process will include criteria to best ensure the successful implementation of such computer and multimedia resources so that the goal of enhancing the efficiency and quality of classroom teaching and learning, as well as ODL, is met.
