The Tanzania Education and Research Network- TERNET consist of three membership types:  

1. Founder Member Institutions: these are Tanzanian Universities and other higher education institutions whose chief executive officers or their designated representatives are signatory to the Memorandum.

2. Subsequent Member Institutions: These are Tanzanian Universities and other higher education institutions admitted to membership of TERNET in accordance with relevant bye-laws of TERNET and whose chief executive officers and other designated representatives are not signatory to the Memorandum.

3. Other Participating Institutions: these are such other governmental and non- governmental institutions in the education sector, including schools, offices, and hospitals as the Member Institutions are designated and, in their turn, those that accept to be associated in or with TERNET.
